Spatial Positions 9 «Aristide Antonas. Protocols of Athens»

In Fortsetzung der 2013 initiierten Ausstellungsreihe «Spatial Positions», in deren Fokus Arbeiten zeitgenössischer Architekten und Künstler im Grenzbereich der architektonischen Disziplin stehen, widmet sich die Schau dem Werk des griechischen Architekten und Philosophen Aristide Antonas (*1963, Athen). Im Mittelpunkt stehen seine primär spekulativen Projekte und Gedankenexperimente, deren primäres Ziel die Aufwertung prekärer Orte im öffentlichen Raum in Athen ist. Als Bauelemente fungieren dabei bereits bestehende, einfache Materialien aus dem Stadtraum. Im Zusammenspiel mit einem sorgfältig ausgewählten Programm entsteht eine auf Partizipation mit der lokalen Bevölkerung basierende Architektur mit Ready-made Charakter, die exemplarisch neue Wege für den Umgang mit der Stadt im Hinblick auf die seit 2009 andauernde Wirtschafts- und Staatsschuldenkrise aufzeigt. Spätestens seit deren Eintreten sind Architekten weltweit gezwungen, die Rolle ihrer Profession zu überdenken, eine Neubewertung vorzunehmen und die Architektur um eine soziale Dimension zu erweitern.

Mit der Ausstellung betritt das S AM Neuland, denn trotz ihrer Innovationskraft und reichen Tradition fand die zeitgenössische griechische Architektur bisher wenig museale Beachtung und wurde kaum wissenschaftlich reflektiert. Die Vernissage mit einem einführenden Talk findet am 06. März 2015 um 19 Uhr statt.

The exhibition 'Soft Power: The Brussels Way of Making the City' traces Belgium's journey to becoming an internationally renowned hotspot for contemporary architecture and urban planning. The show sheds light on the framework conditions that have given rise to a high-quality building culture in Brussels and encouraged a new generation of architects to participate in its urban development.
