Award Ceremony for the Third Edition of UTOPIA, the International Student Ideas Competition Presented by Itten+Brechbühl
UTOPIA – NOW!, the third edition of Itten+Brechbühl's (IB) international student ideas competition, was launched on February 26, 2026, with a total prize fund of CHF 10,000. Reflecting IB's close collaboration with the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum, the award ceremony will take place at S AM in Basel.
An interdisciplinary jury comprising leading figures from the Swiss architecture community reviewed approximately 60 submissions. Entries were received from universities across Europe and Asia.
The award-winning projects will be exhibited during the ceremony at S AM and will also be on view from September 4 to 11 at Domushaus, Pfluggässlein 3, Basel.
The submissions to this third edition of UTOPIA – NOW! explore social connection, participation, and collective responsibility. They respond to growing isolation in an increasingly digital society, question established systems, and reflect on the fragility of social and political structures. Sustainability is understood as the interplay of environmental, social, and material concerns.
Daniel Blum will open the award ceremony and moderate a short panel discussion on the competition theme, NOW!, as part of a program accompanied by live music.
