DISCOVERY TOURS for schools, kindergartens and day centres

During the exhibition Access for All (20th of March – 15th of August 2021), the S AM Swiss Museum of Architecture is launching a rich and cost-free education programme for schools at all levels, kindergartens and day centres. On one hand, we offer dialogue-based guided tours and workshops within the exhibition Access for All at the respective appropriate level. On the other hand, we now offer education formats outdoors as well. The education ranges from playful approaches through to explanations based on architectural theory.

OUTDOOR DISCOVERY TOURS

TOUR 1: INTERVENTIONS – DETAILS IN THE CITYSCAPE
Ever since the 1970s, the plaza Theaterplatz has served to unite a cultural ensemble: Two museums, a cinema and a theatre stand close together. We start at this architectural point of culture and go on a tour, analysing public squares and routes, while also making a mark ourselves.
Duration: 90 minutes
Bookable time slots: Monday to Friday, 8 am – 12 noon / 1 – 5 pm
Target group: All school levels, kindergartens and day centres

TOUR 2: ART IN THE PUBLIC SPACE
Art in the public space exists, moves, ceases to be and irritates. It is there in the form of discreet (but also loud and major) interventions. This tour makes the familiar appear in a new light, sharpens perception, and offers an invitation to wander the city with a different view and new perspectives.
Duration: 90 minutes
Bookable time slots: Monday to Friday, 8 am – 12 noon / 1 – 5 pm
Target group: All school levels, kindergartens and day centres

TOUR 3: BASEL Changing Over Time – a JOURNEY of discovery and drawing
In the spirit of the ‘science of strolling’, as defined by Lucius Burckhardt, who encouraged people to explore the urban space by strolling through it, we set out on a journey of discovery through Basel’s city centre. We bring a drawing pencil, a pad, a sketched city map and possibly a camera with us.
Duration: 90 minutes
Bookable time slots: Monday to Friday, 8 am – 12 noon / 1 – 5 pm
Target group: Lower- and upper-secondary levels
