9/10 Denk Mal Bar: Tingeltangel with Christian + Sebastian (Association Examples of Socialist Architecture)

6 – 10 PM

Limmathaus community center in Zurich by Adolf Steger and Karl Egender, 1930: Either a good example of 'New Building' – or a good community center. What is protected as a historical monument?
The Association for Examples of Socialist Architecture was founded in Zurich in 2020 and focuses on examples of socialist architecture. This includes buildings, spaces, planning processes, interior design, space utilization, space usage, and so on, which can serve as examples of a socialist understanding of, or a socialist approach to, architecture. Sebastian Bietenhader and Christian Portmann are members of the Association for Examples of Socialist Architecture.

The 'denk mal bar' creates a space to discuss the heritage conservation of tomorrow over a cool drink - because heritage conservation is and always has been a matter of negotiation. The bar becomes a discursive sculpture, its base is filled with literature that can be quickly picked up during lively discussions. This use echoes the former Kunsthalle Bar, which operated in the same space for two decades from 1984.
On selected Thursday evenings, experts from the fields of architecture and heritage conservation invite you to their signature drinks and informal discussions on the future of heritage conservation.

The denk mal bar was developed and operated by the architecture collective squadra for the exhibition “What Was Could Be.”

At the same time as our event, the Kunsthalle Basel invites you to the vernissage of Bagnus Pandega from 7 to 10 pm.
