NEST is a modular building operated by Empa and Eawag, two research institutes of the ETH Domain. Gramazio Kohler Architects conceived the building as an open system: a central core with an atrium and three cantilevered platforms into which mock-ups are installed according to a 'plug & play' principle. Unlike conventional 'silent' mock-ups on construction sites, the NEST units provide data about themselves, are actively used and – in some cases – are even inhabited.
So, how does it feel to live in a mock-up, even if for one night? We will have the opportunity to ask this question to Ji Min An and Philippe Müller from the Lucerne-based Architekturbüro AMA, who are invited to spend one night in the DFAB HOUSE unit. The latter is the world's first residential building that has been built predominantly digitally using robots and 3D printers.
The applied-research visit will be documented on our Instagram-Account. In addition, we will check in live with the two architects for a guided visit of the mock-up and ask them about their first impressions on Saturday, October 9, at 6 PM. Again, on the S AM Instagram account.
