S AM Open House Lecture | Swiss Architectural Award 2022: Xu Tiantian
5 PM - 6 PM
Xu Tiantian, founder of DnA Design and Architecture (China), wins the eighth edition of the Swiss Architectural Award 2022 with 26 candidates from 14 countries.
Xu Tiantian's works are characterized by a keen attention to context, a precise yet poetic stance, and the blending of different scales and themes, between architecture and infrastructure, between permanence and ephemerality, between reuse and ex novo intervention.
The Fondazione Teatro dell'architettura (Mendrisio) offers the award every two years and, in cooperation with the USI-Accademia di architettura, continues the legacy of the architecture foundation BSI. The prize promotes an architecture that is sensitive to contemporary, ethical, aesthetic and ecological issues and enables public debate.
Chaired by Mario Botta, this year's jury consisted of Walter Angonese (Director of the Accademia di architettura, USI), Stéphanie Bru (winner of the seventh edition of the SAA with the Parisian Studio Bruther), Dieter Dietz (Director of the Section d'Architecture, EPFL -ENAC) and Tom Emerson (Dean of the Department of Architecture, ETHZ). This cooperation underlines the national importance of the award and confirms its internationality: Xu Tiantian was selected from 26 candidates from 14 countries.
With the Open House Lecture, the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum, in cooperation with Open House Basel, USI-Accademia di architettura and the Fondazione Teatro dell'architettura, is celebrating the innovative work of XU Tiantian and the ambitious prize.
