What’s happening to the former Children’s Hospital in Zurich? An open discussion starting from the exhibition 'What Was Could Be'

6-7.30 PM

An event organized by ZAS* and S AM
Following the relocation of the Zurich Children’s Hospital, a major vacancy has opened up in the neighborhood of Hottingen. While parts of the site already have proposed new uses, the iconic ward block from 1968 – designed by Rudolf and Peter Steiger – is set to be demolished and replaced by a controversial new building for the Center of Dental Medicine.
The ZAS* Zurich Working Group for Urban Design is calling for a much-needed alternative: the creation of an 'urban hotel' in the existing structure. A concept that could address urgent issues such as housing shortages, population growth, and migration – on a site of significant architectural and urban value. The film 'Abriss', produced for the exhibition 'What Was Could Be: Experiments Between Preservation and Architecture' at the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum, will serve as the starting point for an open discussion.
