Sensing Bodies
Sensing Bodies unfolds as a flow of snapshots of public life in Tokyo over the course of a day. Its protagonists are office workers, seen individually or collectively in moments of everyday pause—in parks, on squares and pavements, in passageways and smoking areas of a business district, or on the underground. Subtly observing the quiet, wordless presence of people, the film points, with unexpected urgency, to the internalisation of social norms and systems of control, as well as to experiences of social distance and loneliness. At the same time, it reveals possibilities for individual freedom.
