ASSEMBLE

THE S AM EVENT PROGRAMME FOR TRAINEE ARCHITECTS

Trainees are indispensable in architectural offices, although their numbers vary according to office size. For instance, there can be up to 40 trainees working in larger architectural offices, while smaller offices might employ just one. The majority of trainees are from outside the city or abroad. When they come to Switzerland for their traineeship, most have no social structures to fall back on. The long working hours and modest pay (low budget for leisure activities) often make it difficult for trainees to build up a social environment during their traineeship.

ASSEMBLE offers S AM members’ trainees a free monthly leisure programme that enriches their stay in Basel or Switzerland and encourages networking among the budding architects. The first event took place in January 2014.

The monthly ASSEMBLE events give participants a chance to network, to exchange ideas and to get to know the tri-border region better. For S AM, ASSEMBLE is also a good opportunity to get in touch with architectural offices on a regular basis, as well as to build and maintain relationships with trainees as the months go by. After all, they are the S AM members and S AM visitors ‘of tomorrow’.

The ASSEMBLE events are held once a month, usually on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and mostly in English.
